Senior


		PURPOSE: To increase public awareness of the supportive needs of senior citizens, to share information about senior services and legislative initiatives, to extend help to other agencies that provide help with seniors, and to hear speakers on issues effecting seniors. Senior Grants and Projects During the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 fiscal years, this division made a donation to Decatur Macon County Animal Foundation. The money was then matched and exceeded by the Foundation. Eligible seniors were able to adopt a pet from the Foundation. The pet was spayed/neutered, chipped, had initial shots and a bag of food. This was at no charge to the senior. During the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 fiscal years a grants were provided to the Fire Department to purchase emergency key boxes. The key boxes allow emergency personnel to gain access to a senior's home without causing any damage to the property. During the 2011/2012 fiscal year, the division also provided funding to the Decatur Fire Department for its education program and the group created 24 emergency food boxes to sustain a person for 72 hours in the event of a disaster. 2012/2013 CO-CHAIRS: Koyoe Hanscel, Heritage Manor, Ph: 864-2356 Email: khanscel@Heritageofcare.com Wendy DeVore, Decatur Housing Authority Ph: 423-7711 Email: wendyd@decaturhousing.com MEETINGS: Monthly, held on the fourth Thursday of the month at 12:00p.m. at various agencies. 11:30 a.m. brown bag lunch.
